Time To Freshen Up Stale Sites & Perform Some Niche Site Spring Cleaning

Spring is here and now is the time of year when I like to take inventory of my sites that might be lacking freshness as far outdated products and models go. Now of course if you are in the cellphone or smartphone niche, this could be a constant ongoing process, but not all niches are that fast moving.

Usually I will start by going to Amazon and taking notice of any new items that might be best sellers and work backwards from there. I firmly believe older models, depending on the niche, have their place as well as most end up on eBay. That of course is right up my alley as well.

Depending on where I am in my other content creation, I may or may not decide to farm out the product info writing to my writers. Over the years I have found that I can use my time more wisely by paying them to research and write these. There are some niches though that I enjoy more than others and will sometimes tackle that content myself. It just depends site to site.

The best thing about adding new products is the appearance that the site is being updated in the eyes of both the surfer and the search engines. If the site has any age to it and a little authority, these pages can rank almost instantly and reward you in organic and search traffic much quicker than say a brand new site.

Not every niche is a winner as I hit duds like everyone else from time to time. Start with your best producing sites and work backwards. It will take some time, but usually well worth the time to do. While your at it, have a look around at any updates or errors you might need to take care of and treat the site like you are giving it a Spring cleaning.

Someone emailed me yesterday asking about a certain new Amazon Wordpress and wondering if I tried it. There are new plugins that come out all the time to have the ability to show Amazon products on your niche sites. I have used quite a few over the years, but my go-to Amazon plugin remains the PHPZon plugin by Wade. why? I trust it and I know it converts when I build my sites right. Does this mean that other plugins are not as good? Absolutely not, I just have no reason to play with them or test them. I posted about the PHPZon Wordpress update the other day and hopefully you have the changes in place to meet the new Amazon API changes. You should of received the email notice if you own these plugins, but this is your heads up if it landed in your SPAM bucket. I have been busy making these changes myself along with some well needed tweaks. Busy, busy.

Amazon Has The Trust

It is no secret that Amazon is very iconic and very trusted in the eyes of web consumers now. Their affiliate program was once frowned upon in the early days because of the short cookie. I am proud to say that this month, Amazon will take over the lead for my income over EPN and Adsense. I have been conscious over this last year to alleviate the direct pressure off of sites that were mostly living off of EPN without losing the EPN income. I have long owned and used the PHPZon and ReviewAzon plugins and just made sure to use them more in the forefront with EPN. The results have been amazing and the EPN earnings on those same sites have hardly suffered in the process. I am also working on slowly fazing out EPN on sites where the conversion rates are extremely high on some sites as it is stupid to give an option that produces less income when another produces more income at a better rate. This is not every site mind you, but the obvious ones are quite obvious. These type sites are your basic type sites that are built close to the way it is taught in the niche site guide. Nothing fancy, just using the basics along with great content. Amazon is not going anywhere and people trust it. Have you integrated it enough into your own sites? Have you tried adding it to sites using EPN. You might be surprised at the results.

The Perfect Amazon Product

Let me start by saying this is no way scientific. It is merely a surface observation I have done from my own sites that I sell products from Amazon. It by no certainty mean you still can not color outside the lines.

The sites I have the most success with sell products that are in the $50-$150 range and those same items can not be found down at the local Wal-Mart. How is that for a broad range? Also based on 4% earnings per product sold, you can see that it does not take many sales for a site to earn it's keep so to speak. You will also find that most of these type products are easily shipped as well in this price range.

Does this mean you still can not sale hand held hair dryers because you can find them at Wal-Mart? Absolutely not. Research the niche. Some woman prefer a certain watt or brand of hair dryer. Just do your research, the answer is there.

Most people complain about the short Amazon cookie life, but I am here to tell you that if your site shows the product the surfer is looking to buy and it is the right price, you will have no problem converting them. This goes for most any product and any affiliate program. Some businesses do a better job closing the sale then others, but as affiliate marketers it is not hard to track who those are if you monitor your clicks closely.

Any how I by digging through there today, I found 10 products/model numbers that I researched with the new Micro Niche Finder 5.0 and found low traffic, low competition, low measure of backlinks and high search amounts in Google. Took me about 45 minutes. These products are in niches that i have already developed as well. Wednesday I will create the pages and they should rank instantaneously. Stop looking for secrets when the treasure is right below your feet. You just have to use the effort and right tools to dig. Go get those Acres of Diamonds.

ReviewAzon Wordpress Plugin Webinar

Brian Johnson from Commission Ritual hosted a webinar with ReviewAzon creator Brad Hanson on Friday and they went over in depth the use of the ReviewAzon Wordpress plugin together. The webinar went about 2 hours and they took several questions from viewers as well. The webinar has now been archived and posted online. Amazon To Pay Bloggers

Came across a great story on the Wall Street Journal about the new Amazon beta program that pays bloggers for Kindle subscriptions to their posts. The Kindle e-book reader is apparently picking up steam and is a very hot item right now. It also comes with an experimental Web browser that allows readers to surf the web as well. The new blogger program will pay approved bloggers 30% of its subscription fee. There is no cost to join the program, you just have to register with Amazon, and give the company information on where to send the check to. Should be an interesting program to watch, especially if the Kindle makes it through the Christmas season.

New Version Of PHPZon Coming Soon

Just a heads of that the new version of PHPZon will be released any day and I suggest buying a license before the price goes up. At this time you need to own PHPBay to order PHPZon, but both are fantastic and well needed Wordpress plugins. PHPZon gives you the ability to show Amazon products much in the same way the PHPBay plugin displays ebay items. I have been using the Amazon plugin for some time now and love it.
