Guideline To Finding The Perfect Wordpress Theme

Someone emailed yesterday and asked what makes a perfect Wordpress theme. I think that is a broad question, but I do know what to look for in a theme as far as functionality thanks to this older post by Joost de Valk. Yoast walks you through 10 of the most important things in his eyes for a Wordpress theme to have. Most themes usually abide by these, but you will run into some that don't and often times you can fix it yourself. As far as looks and layout goes, there is more than one type of layout and color scheme that works. As usual, I always say the less cluttered and the cleaner the better. If you are not good with graphics, do not pretend to be. All text themes can be just as good as those with top notch graphics or logos. The key is good SEO and great content.

I just came across this video today and thought I would pass it along on how to post to your Wordpress blog by just writing an email, from your desktop, the web, or even your cell phone. Many of you this is not new news, but to some of you it may be. This comes courtesy of the great Wordpress.tv site. Great video tutorials there.

WPBeginner Blog - Tutorials For Beginners To Wordpress

I came across the WPBeginner Blog today that features tutorials and post dedicated towards beginners to Wordpress. This business is constantly seeing new influx of people and i like to be able to point them in the right direction every now and again as well. Make sure to really browse around there and try the search feature they have for specific tutorials. I also remind you of my top 40 Wordpress plugin list that I recently updated and you will see several on the WPBeginner Blog as well. Also not to be lost in the shuffle is the great Wordpress.tv site. Wordpress is easy to learn and I suggest it be the niche CMS platform of choice. Every thing else compares in comparison and you will be using Wordpress sooner or later so fooling with any other platform that you might have to pay for is foolish, especially if it does not have a long track record like Wordpress especially where security is concerned. Do yourself a favor and learn to use what the pros use.

Mike Johnson Autoblog Blueprint Review

I was sent an invitation a while ago to review the Auto Blog Blueprint for a limited time and finally got around last week to getting inside and really see what it is all about. First of all let me say the name should let you know what it is all about. You have heard about me talk about WP Robot before and in essence this is a road map of how to use that plugin along with several others to create money making autoblogs. You will need to own WP Robot or some other autoblogging plugin, but it is centered around WP Robot, which is the best I have tried. All of the other plugins used are mostly found in my top 40 Wordpress plugin list I did a while back. The videos and instruction are top notch in this membership site and it is just a one time payment to join. Mike Johnson also offers a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee if not satisfied.

Let me say as I have mentioned before, if you get into autoblogging, you need to make sure your host can handle it. I have a few set up on shared host, but am pushing the envelope. The others I set up on a few of my VPS servers. If you want to try it out on a shared host like Hostgator, you may get a way with it for a while to learn the system, but be prepared to get better hosting the more taxing you get on the host. Just a warning up front on this.

The modules are well laid out by Mike and there is a forum for members as well. Like anything else, you need to read and learn his system before jumping in head first. There is a ton of information inside and you will be tempted to leap before understanding it all. Lay yourself out some time, to watch and read everything first. As he says in the video, most will buy and never follow his teachings because of not having the patience to learn first or stick with it. For those of you wanting a step-by-step tutorial on how to build these properly, Auto Blog Blueprint is what you are looking for. I highly recommend it and it has been around for a while.

Checking In On The Challenge

You may remember the 30 day challenge from a year or so ago. This years version is dubbed just "The Challenge" and although I have known about it for a while, I wanted them to get ahead quite a ways so I could dedicate a whole couple of days to watching everything. Their videos are top notch and newbies can really learn quite a bit as can veterans. I always pick up a few nuggets in these things. I would suggest setting aside large chunks of time for these modules though or depending on your time, you can go day to day. I like to knock these out in large sections myself and likely will revisit when they get back ahead a ways. There are tons of task to do, but I promise it is well worth the time.

Writing Great Product Descriptions & Sales Copy

We will do a complete 180 from turnkey keyword sites talked about yesterday and go back to thick product review, store like niche sites. Karon Thackston has an excellent article on Webmaster World entitled Seven Steps To Writing Enticing Product Descriptions where she covers the art of e-commerce copywriting. Now I farm out a ton of my writing to a few writers and specifically have trained them to the type reviews and descriptions I want. My ideal stuff is 200-300 words, any more is just too long in my opinion. You can pick up several tips to use yourself or hold your own writers to as well as how to display it on site. If need be, forward the link above to your writers. When it comes to keyword phrases in the 5th tip, don't let your writers stuff the same phrase in order to meet a word count. Over time you can train your writers to know exactly what is acceptable and what is not. Remember, they work for you. Karon has a new ebook on the way as well that looks to be a winner. You can pre order it now. Good stuff.

How & Why To Speed Up Your Website

Another week and another medical exam is in my future on Thursday morning. This one also entails me emptying out my system again. Oh the humanity. This week the suggested cocktail is Magnesium Citrate. Ah, the joys of getting older and paying for abusing your body in it's younger days.

Any ways, in between running to the porcelain throne, I thought i would post a link and video from one of our favorite sites, SEO Moz. In this White Board Friday segment from last week, Danny Dover goes over 7 ways to take advantage of Google's site and speed algorithm by showing 7 proven techniques well known websites use to boost their site speed.

Entertaining Graphic On How Google Works

Happy Saturday to all. I am working on getting another VPS server up ang going and to my liking today along with cleaning up some stuff on my other servers as well. While on Twitter this morning, I came across a post from by the end of June by Aaron Wall on his interpretation of how Google Works. You will see he has made it easy for us bloggers to add the graphic to our post as well, with a great backlink to his new PPC blog. This post of his is not only informative, but it makes for great link bait with a title of How Google works and it will assuredly do it's job in attaining backlinks as well. So there is more than one thing to learn from his entire post, not only how Google works. Wall is a master of this. Of course click the graphic for a larger version.

1) I found it via Twitter.
2) The bait was irresistible for me not to click.
3) It is a graphic that screams post me somewhere.
4) The content is informative.
5) He makes it VERY easy to share.

Windows Movie Maker Tutorials

I received two emails in regards to the Saturday post on using Windows Movie Maker. The request were for instructions on what I meant as far as making videos of images with Movie Maker. This is a free program likely already on your computer and you can read some detailed tutorials here on creating a photo montage with Windows Movie Maker as well as a video I found from 7 Dollar Video Store as well. Both of these tutorials should easily bring you up to speed on making these videos for free. Keep in mind you can also search Youtube for more tutorials on both Movie Maker or the GFX Video Writer program.

Zac Johnson Free Ebook

I have been busy pumping out 40 videos today for niches, but took time to peruse the latest offering from Zac Johnson. I have read Zac Johnson's blog for quite a while now and he just recently released a free ebook entitled Six Figure Affiliate Blogging. You will have to opt in of course to download it, but this ebook is 97 pages and a pretty easy read. He has some Q & A's with other well known bloggers such as Jeremy Schoemaker, Gary Vaynerchuck, John Chow, Brian Clark and Tim Sykes to name a few. Depending on what level you are at in this business, will determine how much you get out of the ebook. It sides on the overview side as far as information goes and a ton of it you will have already seen before or know. Like anything else though, you could stand to have your eyes opened on a few things or get a quick refresher on some other things. Free is free, so I will let you be the judge of the value you get from it. I have to admit though for a free ebook it is well put together.

Faceted Navigation Explained

If you remember last week, I posted a link to the interview Eric Enge did with Matt Cutts. I also commented in that post about faceted navigation. Well it did not take Rand Fishkin from SEO Moz very long to dedicate a Whiteboard Friday video to it. Rand shows you a clean and simple way to allow for both great usability for your visitors and compact, straightforward crawl-ability for the search engines. It is a little deep and many do not have to worry about it, but it is educational.

A Newbie Needs To Learn Method First

It is so confusing to those new to this business, especially those with no web experience to start with. Newbies are bombarded with marketing of things they do and do not need right out of the chute. They are easily influenced by one little success story and will chase it as if it were a magic bean. Tools are great, plugins are great, but in the hands of the newbie that does not understand the process, they are worthless.

When a newbie can actually see the results of a process they learn actually make them money, then and only then can they begin to get serious at expanding outwards from their. Many try the "mud on the wall" approach and while a few make a few bucks, they can never reproduce the process.

I see many, many IP's come and go through this site and the BANS forum. Very few ever earn more than $100.00 in their affiliate marketing careers. The failure rate is incredible, just like any business. The 2 best places for a newbie to start in my opinion is first reading and learning the Commission Ritual process and earning money that way. Then graduate to the Niche Site Guide to learn how to implement products listings into a site.

The best thing about the Commission Ritual process is that it also addresses using, installing and setting up Wordpress. This is something every newbie struggles with. Try it for $4.95 for 7 days. You will see that this is a must for a newbie and will get you earning money to start recuperating your start up cost. Once you learn the method, you have the hard part behind you. Don't buy another tool until you learn the method of making money the right way in this business.
