It is a lesson that needs repeating often. So many try to avoid it, but the fact remains that great content will get your site the best backlinks in the shortest amount of time. Through the revamping of several of my own websites recently, I have focused on thickening up thin sites from the early days with great original content. Of course after adding this great content I promote the hell out of it through whatever social media I can in order to try to get it in front of as many eyes as possible. Many times it results in backlinks given unconditionally on like sites. Not all the time mind you, but more times than not. I target low hanging keyword fruit as well, which makes MOST of the articles easy to rank.
I can speak from experience that it does not take long for these type of backlinks to boost you tremendously in the rankings as these links usually come from more authoritative types of sites and carry heavy weight. It could be a forum post link or blog post. Regardless these links can juice a whole site inside and out. If you struggle with building backlinks unnaturally, concentrate on adding more great targeted content to your site. I promise it will not hurt you and only help in more ways than one. It has been proven time and time again, but many choose to ignore it as fact.

Can You Learn From TMZ?
Like most, I got caught up in all of the Tiger Woods hoopla. It is very uncharacteristic for me, but a train wreck I could not keep my eyes off of for a few days. Most of you already know about the website TMZ. There really is not too much to the site that you can't do with Wordpress. It also shows you that post do not need to be long in nature and the use of photos, video and audio can really engage surfers. Not that you did not know that, but their site is proof of it in action. Their monetization is quite simple as well. Of course they have paid sponsors, but they also use affiliate programs and Google Adsense as well. The layout is nothing extravagant, just simple, clean and easy to navigate. You can apply several things that they do to your own blogs. Have a look around at simplicity in action. Proof that sometimes we ALL over think things in this business.

Are You Using Today?
Authority sites that can be used to rank an article and funnel traffic to your BANS site or niche site should not be ignored. The latest gem is Today.com. This is a site you can host a blog on and earn money as well. The best thing about it is that it has authority and articles or blog post can be ranked in Google very easily. I did a test by merely re-posting an article from another site of mine on Today.com and the page now ranks for it's target phrase on page 1 of Google in the number 5 position. No backlinks or anything. If you have used Wordpress before, getting around Today will be a breeze. You can have a site up and running in 15 minutes flat. They have some tutorials as well if you are new to the platform. You earn money from them via Rev Share on Products, Flat Rate for Traffic (CPM) and are Paid Monthly via Paypal.
Marketing via authority sites is great practice for veterans and newbies alike. It is a great way to rank quickly and also build traffic to your own site. Get going today with Today.

One Quality Link Can Make A Difference
So many people worry about the number of backlinks they need to get instead of focusing on quality. I have just completed a 4 week test with a brand new site related to one of my older high authority, high ranking sites. I optimized the new site, made one blog post and gave it a keyword driven anchor text backlink from my high authority same niche site. This one link was enough to rank the newer site on page 1 of Google for a highly competitive search term. Just one link! Now the higher quality backlinks are indeed harder to get, but well worth the time. Concentrate on quality and watch your rankings climb.
Also I am seeing great results from the Free Traffic System, I mentioned a few post back. One article (spun 30 times) with rotated backlinks has jumped the test site up to page one for 2 keyword phrases. If you are still concerned, then use it to drive backlinks to your articles on GoArticles or EzineArticles. Judge the results for yourself, you having nothing to lose.

Plain and simple a 900lb Gorilla is a term used for a website or sites for a specific search term that will close to impossible to unseat in the SERPS. Notice I did not say impossible, but I like to choose my battles wisely and if you are new to SEO and Build A Niche Stores, there is no reason to battle the 900lb Gorilla.
Some good free tools to see if you are against a 900lb Gorilla starts with a simple search of Goggle, Yahoo and Live for a keyword phrase you are competing for. Lets go with the post yesterday and "collectible cameras". Do a search on all 3 engines and take note of the top 3 sites in each.
Google:
www.collectiblecameras.com
www.manfredschmidt.com
www.photolinks.com/Vintage_Cameras_Photography_Equipment.html
Yahoo:
www.collectiblecameras.com
www.collectiblecameras.com/catalog/index.php?category_id=230
www.manfredschmidt.com
Live:
www.collectiblecameras.com
www.greencamera.com
stores.ebay.com/Cupog-Collectible-Cameras
as you can see...
www.collectiblecameras.com & www.manfredschmidt.com have pretty good showings. Now lets see how good. We can use this free link popularity tool to research collectiblecameras.com for starters against 3 of the other sites.
Here is what I filled in below:

Here is the result page:

As you can see www.collectiblecameras.com has 90 Google links and 1833 Yahoo links. While this is not a 900lb Gorilla it certainly is a 400lb one and will be quite tough to overtake as #1. However www.manfredschmidt.com and www.greencamera.com are definitely in reach according to that data. You can drill down each top 10 from each search engine this way as well. In addition you can use this free tool to see most of the anchor text used as well and the backlinks pointing to these sites as well.
Remember that sometimes it is not the quantity of inbound links sometimes as much as it is quality of the sites linking to said page as well. Further analysis of www.manfredschmidt.com reveals that they have some great yahoo directory links as well as a dmoz listing which really fortifies it's stronghold. You can run a test on the top 20 overall to get a better look at the entire competition. If there are more than a few 900lb Gorillas in a search phrase you would be better off going after a longer phrase or an entirely different phrase all together. Pick your battles wisely and until you are much better at SEO and are making some good money with your Niche Stores, I would wait to battle the 900lb Gorilla. He will likely still be there waiting for you when you are ready.

Expired Domain List Finder
As you progress and get more comfortable with building more and more BANS stores, you might want to start looking at some expired domain names that may have some backlinks or age authority. Here is one place I look at daily. Fresh drop is a great little tool to play with. I have used them before and love it. Most are being sold through Godaddy so that is a plus as well.

Make your site the authority on the product
I see time and time again new BANS sites pop up all over the net. Lots of them are very attractive with great design and have good to excellent optimization. The thing that most of these sites are missing is good solid content. Pretend that you did not have a store set up, would Google still find your site worthwhile? Probably not! If you sell big, greasy, blue widgets you site better be where people come to find info on those types of widgets. Tell people about the history of those widgets, tell them why your widgets are better than the green widgets. 400 word articles are a great start. Try adding one a week a week or so as you work on building other stores. Google loves authoritative sites. They will have no problem sending you the traffic you deserve if they think you will be the best place for the surfer to go. If you are not a writer you can find great, cheap content providers over at Digital Point. Now go sell those widgets.
